I use a "Logitech QuickCam Express" which seems to work just fine through video4linux with the qce-ga [1] drivers ( on 2.4.23 and 2.6.0 ), unfortunately not in the kernel. Unfortunately I can't offer any comparison to how well it works, as I haven't used any other webcam, nor used this one on OSes supported by Logitech's drivers.
