This is a very dangerous fallacy. Free software does make a difference for all. I have installed and maintained free software for many friends who at the time weren't up to the task to look into it. Most of them are still using Gnu/Linux after years. One of them even studied bioinformatics and is now in the position to help others. A rising tide floats all boats and all that. So don't say such things without thinkiing before. Use your brains.
