I'm using Mate 1.20. I noticed a continual flood in my /var/log/Xorg.0.log

modeset(0): Failed to get GBM bo for flip to new front.

I tracked down the error at

https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1645553

I used more or less the procedure documented by pkoz 2018-12-28 08:17:40 UTC and the spamming stopped.

MATE menu>System>Preferences>Look and Feel>Windows>General tab>Enable software compositing window manager checkbox.

However, some artefacts developed such as black borders on menu panels. Not so much a problem.

The big problem now is video playing has obvious tearing of the image.

My video card is

09:00.0 VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] Caicos PRO [Radeon HD 7450]

and my system

PRETTY_NAME="Debian GNU/Linux 11 (bullseye)"
NAME="Debian GNU/Linux"
VERSION_ID="11"

Any suggestions on how to get clean video again?
