I will restrict my comments to PCs, as fast servers are another matter
entirely.

For my own personal PC, there is no advantage in SCSI. IDE drives work
fast enough and they are cheap and pretty reliable. I don't need the
interface for speed or capacity: I'm already running 6 drives, I certainly
don't need more. SCSI is hugely expensive and would gain me nothing.

The principal advantage is in the interface. Manufacturers, of course,
would prefer you to think differently, after all, there is a huge cost
difference, but I expect that if you took two similar models from, say,
Maxtor, the MTBF for the mechanics wouldn't be that different.

Also, people who have outlaid a significant amount of money for SCSI
drives for overengineered PCs will be more inclined to believe that SCSI
drives are more mechanically reliable, because it's difficult to think
that one has spent all that money just to have OpenOffice load 500ms
faster. And maybe the reverse is true: maybe I'm justifiying IDE when in
reality I'm just a cheapskate.

Anyway, it's just my opinion, take it for what it cost :)

It's working as coded.
