Actually, matrix.org aims to be that as well. It probably doesn't yet qualify for "rich choice" (e.g. there is a matrix-client.el but it doesn't support encryption yet), but other than that, it's pretty much there. Stefan "using Matrix as a replacement for WhatsApp"
