dear all, i'm relatively new to Debian, and not particularly familiar with it.
when i try to install a program (e.g. shockwave) using apt-get install i end up with the error message below W: Couldn't stat source package list http://marill.free.fr unstable/main Packages (/var/lib/apt/lists/marill.free.fr_dists_unstable_main_binary-i386_Packages) - stat (2 No such file or directory) W: You may want to run apt-get update to correct these problems E: Couldn't find package shockwave and then, on running apt-get update, the following comes up: Failed to fetch http://marill.free.fr/dists/unstable/main/binary-i386/Packages.gz Could not resolve 'marill.free.fr' Failed to fetch http://marill.free.fr/dists/unstable/main/binary-i386/Release Could not resolve 'marill.free.fr' Reading Package Lists... Done W: Couldn't stat source package list http://marill.free.fr unstable/main Packages (/var/lib/apt/lists/marill.free.fr_dists_unstable_main_binary-i386_Packages) - stat (2 No such file or directory) W: You may want to run apt-get update to correct these problems E: Some index files failed to download, they have been ignored, or old ones used instead. which seems, from the penultimate line, to be a self-perpetuating situation. could anyone please explain what's going on and how i can fix it?! thanks, josh robinson
