Looking at that machine with htop, and no one logged in on its own console as its waiting for a login because a power bump rebooted it in the night last night and I haven't been up to the shop building to login since.
I see no wayland and 3 instances of xorg running. So its the GTK stuff thats actually missing and the error message I paste quoted is miss-leading. Since the default gui is xfce4, what do I "apt install" to restore gksudo and synaptic to normal function?
