Yes, I took of the nolaunchpppd. This is a relatively recent Knoppix release
from Nov 20 or there-abouts.
I will apt-get the firewall and see how it works.

Strange. You mean that option

pty "/usr/sbin/pptp 10.0.0.138 --nolaunchpppd"

does not work for you? What debian release do you use? Did you just
remove the --nolaunchpppd option?
