Well, if I write scanner "hpaio:/net/deskjet_3050a_j611_series?ip=10.0.1.155" scanner "hpaio:/net/Photosmart_2570_series?ip=10.0.0.32" into some configuration file, then SANE does not need to see the scanners: I just told where to find them.
