That old machine has stored most settings in the BIOS. It's not unlikely, that a new CMOS battery might help, but surely depends on vendor/model and BIOS itself. Look here: https://www.laptop-junction.com/toast/content/battery-not-charging-bios-setup Another way to check state of CMOS battery: unplug and replug AC (and battery at same time - to be sure) for a few seconds.
