Yeah, I might give that a try sometime; something fun to explore. For the moment, I just want to get it back to working with these newer kernels. As I mentioned in my first message, I can't even log in with a rescue kernel as it somehow screws things up enough that I never get a shell prompt. So whatever the problem is, it isn't limited to the X server. Dave
