As I have my own domain, it was trivial to create a mailbox on the mail host and use Mutt/Neomutt's bounce command (b) to 'bounce' the mail in question to that mailbox and then retrieve it with Evolution. It's an extra step but means that I don't have to abandon Neomutt for an inferior mail program.
