I think, whether it works or not, depends on your expectations.
If you want to use your nPA (new identity card, Neuer Personalausweis) for
authentication, it's a mess. Without deeper knowledge about smartcards,
access with web apps, etc. I would say: no, no working, except with the 1:1
reference manual for Ubuntu.
