I was always thinking that the problem is the mixing of multi-channel audio into L/R, where the special effects for some reason are very loud. It has been some time since I last looked into that, but AFAIR (I'm using mplayer mostly) I saw it saying mixing 5.1 to 2 on the fly or something like this. but my question here is - why the subject with mp4s - do only they suffer this problem or it is just a case among others?
