You might have faulty memory. To test that, install memtest86+, reboot, and select it from GRUB's menu. However, memtest86+ does not test video card memory, a likely culprit. More likely, some program is being loaded (perhaps multiple instances of it) and hogging all the memory. That won't be easy to diagnose. I'd start with some careful reading of the boot portion of /var/log/syslog. Both of these suggestions require that you be able to log in before the system locks up.
