I'd recommend using strace to trace the various programs you're running. I suspect a windowmanager problem, but you're in a better position to assess this. Launching a raw X session (X or 'startx <client>') is likely going to be helpful here. Check logs (~/.xsession-errors, /var/log/XFree86.0.log), as well. Peace. -- Karsten M.
