In addition to add-ons such as NoScript, take a look at the settings in
Preferences->Privacy&Security in Firefox.  These sites want to pull
in scripts from dozens of sites as well as setting trackers and storing
cookies and site data on your machine.   They usually work ok without
most of it but there's often some they just can't live without.  It's
inconceivable to the Web designers that you might want to simply read
the text.  They're certain that you need an "enhanced user experience".
