According to the above document and the /etc/kde3/kdm/kdmrc file, I should find some files called /var/run/xdmctl/xdmctl-1 /var/run/xdmctl/xdmctl-2 /var/run/xdmctl/xdmctl-3 and by doing echo reserve 300 >>/var/run/xdmctl/xdmctl-1 I should get an X server with a KDM login box on virtual terminal 8. But there is no /var/run/xdmctl/ directory. There is a /var/lib/xdm/ directory, but it is empty.
