Hi all:

I am debugging some problems in my system after I noticed that some files under my home directory are owned by root. Specifically a dconf one was causing trouble.

This is probably due to my running GUI applications with "sudo", instead of with "gksudo" or similar. Such permission side-effects are well documented on the Internet. Unfortunately, I only found out about it recently.

When scanning all my files under my home directory, I noticed that /home/rdiez/.aptitude/config was owned by root. I guess that is not desirable.

However, Aptitude is not really a GUI application, so using gksudo instead of sudo is probably not the best way, especially when running a text console over SSH.

Could someone shed some light on these matters?

I am not sure whether this is the right place for Aptitude questions. I tried e-mailing Aptitude's author, Daniel Burrows, but the e-mail bounced as unreachable.

Many thanks,
  rdiez
