I have a similar issue. I have plasma running with two widgets on it. When I am starting an application with wine, which uses a lower resolution than the one plasma is running, then the widgets are no more in the position as before (due toe the smaller screen, they were placed somewhere else). So, plasma is not remembering the position of the widgets or the position of the widgets are overwritten somehow. I did not file a bugreport, as I believed, that this behavior just meets only me and (please do not laugh), I am using an EEEPC with resolution 1024x600 and sometimes play old games, who uses 800x600 or even 640x480. Maybe this information might be interesting though.
