That sounds right - I certainly installed the ...-rt kernel, but I think it just depends on your latency requirements - again from memory, I tyhink jackd will happily run at "pulse audio" levels of latency with a simple setting, and thereby audio will be buffered long enough to not need an -rt kernel.
