Well, "ralink" is pretty garbage (unfortunately) in their own right ...
though first thing I'd look into would be disabling the wifi power
management mis-features on the card.

Looked real quick on google, and found this:

Not 100% sure it'll work -- I don't have any Debian boxes with wifi --
but hopefully it'll be a start.
