To slove the AGPGART problem, just get the 2.4.22 kernel source. Just jump in and build the kernel. It is not nearly as difficult as it seems on the surface, especially if you use kernel-package.
Roberto is right - don't let yourself be intimidated with it ! Put everything on paper and follow the guide step by step, you will succed and it's not that hard - it just seems so... Don't forget to unninstall and clean everything you did before, not to mess things up.
