I wasn't paying full attention, basically blanked out as soon as I saw "CUPS" (that I don't use), but your thought here triggered memory of something I just learned while (still) battling wifi setup: systemctl status cups.service At least in my case, that also provides some instant feedback in addition to the already mentioned logs.
