I've had some success displaying SVG with 'sodipodi'. I'm running Sid, but there seems to be a package in Woody for it too. (Fortunately. It has a *lot* of dependencies, so a backport would be considerable pain in the ass.) Caveat: I have spent almost zero time investigating Mozilla plugins for same, so there may be some more on-target solution that I don't know about.
