Provided they are not in any way obstructing airflow, then assuming they are metal ones you WANT them near or under the heat to help conduct it away. I am assuming they are not plastic (shudder - how does anyone manage to knit on plastic?), and bamboo is expensive, but you might have saved those pennies up .... So metal seems reasonably likely.
