Ok, it seems I misunderstood you. You don't want to add the DNS servers of the underlying connection to /etc/resolv.conf? If so, use nm-connection-editor to configure the underlying connection to only use "addresses only". -- Why is it that all of the instruments seeking intelligent life in the universe are pointed away from Earth?
