Just for posteriority: I see that assertion fail every time I start icedove (Jessie) from the command line, it's nothing specific to your problem. It hasn't affected functionality for me before, though, so I seriously doubt it could have something to do with your issue. > No clues in .xsession-errors or syslog. With no further action, everything just worked. What could have been your problem is some weird interaction between running a icedove instance and an upgrade of icedove. I've seen that break iceweasel before - until you either rebooted or manually got rid of some SHM segments. Since you already rebooted, no way to know for sure.
