Thanks!  I did:

# aptitude install libwebkitgtk-3.0-0 libwebkitgtk-3.0-0-dbg 
libwebkitgtk-3.0-common libwebkitgtk-3.0-dev libwebkitgtk-common-dev 
libwebkitgtk-dev gstreamer1.0-alsa gstreamer1.0-pulseaudio

and now youtube has sound.
