Given this is running from cron, I'd be careful about that. The lock file is there to prevent multiple instances running; it's easy with cron to have a process run longer than the interval between runs, So, I'd firstly figure out why it takes longer than expected, then decide if that's ok, and possibly adjust the crontab to increase the interval - or fix whatever's causing it to take too long.
