Hi This seems similar like the problem i head with several daemons: some services (and it seems from what you wrote also telnetd) try to reverse-lookup the connecting IP address, first in /etc/hosts and then in DNS with the standard config and so if you do not have the IP of Box-2 is not in /etc/hosts, it tries to look it up in DNS and if it does not find it, you will have to wait for the timeout which can take some time.... so, I see 2 options: add the IP in /etc/hosts or reconfigure the telnetd to not look up the connecting IP....
