As best I can dredge it up quickly, the dependency chain is: gimp -> libgegl-0.2-0 -> libsdl1.2debian -> libpulse0 -> libsystemd-id128-0 As the name indicates, that library is "part of systemd", although AFAIK it is not dependent on or part of "systemd the init system". (The naming here is confusing, to the point that one could be excused for wondering whether it was intentionally so. I think it's more likely that no one considered the consequences of the naming choices as the systemd project was growing, and by now the existing names have taken on a life of their own.) As I said some time ago, some people will be fine with not running systemd as PID 1, other people wouldn't be fine with that but will be fine with not running the systemd daemons, and other people won't be fine with having any systemd code (including libraries) running on their computers. (udev is a bit of a special case, since it was originally - and probably should still be - a separate project, although the systemd people may want to aim for greater integration there as well.) - -- The Wanderer The reasonable man adapts himself to the world; the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself.
