Recently on my testing machine did an "sudo apt-get dist-upgrade" and after a bit my screen saver (with password lock) kicked on. Meanwhile sssd was half installed (and not functional) when apt hit a question (for sssd actually) and stopped. Now I couldn't unlock my screen saver because sssd wasn't running. This seems like a bug
somewhere in the process, but I have no idea who's bug it is.
