For some days now, localhost has not responded to anything. I've tried everything, and am stumped. Here are a few indications:
ifconfig shows lo is working: lo Link encap:Local Loopback inet addr:127.0.0.1 Mask:255.0.0.0 inet6 addr: ::1/128 Scope:Host UP LOOPBACK RUNNING MTU:65536 Metric:1 RX packets:87 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:87 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:0 RX bytes:17213 (16.8 KiB) TX bytes:17213 (16.8 KiB) ping gets no response: --- 127.0.0.1 ping statistics --- 3 packets transmitted, 0 received, 100% packet loss, time 1999ms netstat -an |grep 631 tcp 0 0 127.0.0.1:631 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN tcp 0 1 127.0.0.1:57813 127.0.0.1:631 SYN_SENT tcp 0 0 127.0.0.1:631 127.0.0.1:57780 FIN_WAIT2 tcp 0 1 127.0.0.1:57811 127.0.0.1:631 SYN_SENT tcp 0 1 127.0.0.1:57817 127.0.0.1:631 SYN_SENT tcp 0 1 127.0.0.1:57816 127.0.0.1:631 SYN_SENT tcp 0 1 127.0.0.1:57812 127.0.0.1:631 SYN_SENT tcp 0 1 127.0.0.1:57815 127.0.0.1:631 SYN_SENT tcp 1 0 127.0.0.1:57780 127.0.0.1:631 CLOSE_WAIT udp 0 0 0.0.0.0:631 0.0.0.0:* I've replaced /etc/hosts with a known-to-work version. systemctl status cups show cups and cups.socket are running: Aug 24 13:29:34 ctoo systemd[1]: Started CUPS Printing Service. Aug 24 13:29:34 ctoo systemd[1]: Starting CUPS Printing Service Sockets. Aug 24 13:29:34 ctoo systemd[1]: Listening on CUPS Printing Service Sockets. I've tried everything I can think of, and hints regarding what to try next would be higholy welcome. -- johnrchamp...@wowway.com ==================================================== GPG key 1024D/99421A63 2005-01-05 EE51 79E9 F244 D734 A012 1CEC 7813 9FE9 9942 1A63 gpg --keyserver subkeys.pgp.net --recv-keys 99421A63
