That will show you any errors the kernel spits out. Maybe let bonnie++ hammer your disk for a couple of days, with varying file sizes? I'd feel pretty confident with a disk that held up under that. Also, run things like "integrit" or "tripwire" which will verify the contents of your disk and point out files that have changed.
