I need help to diagnose and hopefully solve the problem detailed below. I recently installed xfce running jessie. In place of the nvidia driver nouveau is used. Everything went fine for three days then the system started crashing - frozen computer, weird striped screen. This happened at first when trying to start iceweasel or firefox or epiphany.
The upgrades since installation have been minimal and none of them involved xorg or nouveau. Prior to having no workable browser (I guess lynx will work) I didn't find much on the internet as I then suspected it was a browser problem - I now think that the problem may lie with xorg or nouveau configuration. I have found nothing by searching the logs. I may be looking in the wrong place or just don't understand but syslog, xorg.0.log, kern.log do not seem to have any significant warnings. -- John Song - via Penguin Powered (albeit crippled) Desktop.
