JFTR nobody of us mentioned to

- run sudo ldconfig without doing something else before doing this, for
  good reasons, but you never know, just in case, just run sudo ldconfig
  (without adding the path of your firefox install's libs
  to /etc/ld.so.conf or a file in /etc/ld.so.conf.d/)

- to log out and log in, for good reasons too, but again, you never
  know ... log out and log in, or if possible, reboot.

This unlikely will help, but there's a German saying "People have seen
horses puke in front of a drugstore", this means that you never know,
anything can happen.
