If Legacy BIOS settings are turned off, so that the machine will boot only from UEFI an install of Debian 7 Wheezy will work: I have two machines here installed just that way. You will need to tab down to the advanced options as you boot the installer and select expert mode : at that point, you can also choose which desktop to install. You may be able to install a very basic machine by using dd to write the DVD image to an 8G USB stick.
