Thanks Andrei, I'll do that (when I get a chance), sounds more sensible than just replying to the original post, which is what I did:- https://lists.debian.org/debian-boot/2014/03/msg00017.html I also encountered a problem later in the install at the "Configure the package manager" stage with a "Bad archive mirror" message (the mirrors can't *all* be bad, perhaps the installer is). I haven't had time to look at that yet, but I'd be surprised if it wasn't the cause of the packages not found which leads to GRUB (or Lilo) failing to install. Interesting.
