I'm trying to use my Testing system with a Realtek rtl8188ce 802.11 adapter. I use Gnome's nm-applet to connect to the wireless access point, and it accepts the passphrase and connects, fine. However, all attempts to do anything over the network fail, e.g. ping, traceroute, attempts to open a web page all time out with no result.
My first thought was name resolution but I get the same thing with an IP address. My Windows 8.1 ultrabook connects to this network fine. So does my Android phone. So does my (company-issue) iPad. Why is the Debian system failing? I do have the Realtek nonfree firmware installed and this system worked OK in another building using a different WiFi router.
