Not exactly sure what you mean by this sentence. Even if you use wireless only occasionally, you still need some tool to configure it and according to your /etc/network/interfaces it's not ifupdown. By the way, if you have to load the module manually because it's not loaded automatically (strange, did you investigate this?) you can list it in /etc/modules.
