I think you mean me? If so, I didn't say the "same thing". It makes more sense to keep all relevant info in one place (i.e. a dedicated list) rather than in random locations cluttering up the Internet. Sure, using Google with the right search terms may¹ reveal that post in the list of results but it still makes it difficult to navigate. Consider the difference between throwing your car/house keys where ever takes your fancy and then spending 10-15 mins looking for them when you need to go out compared to putting them in a known location. > The OP _might_ be more likely to get an answer on a scripting list or > in a scripting forum but he's more than welcome to ask here if he's > using Debian. Yep. Agree for a newbie who is just starting out and getting the hang of the ropes, but I feel you are doing the newbie an injustice if you give the impression that this list is a one stop shop for all questions Linux/Unix. ¹ I'm finding more and more lately that the results of a google search are getting less and less relevant to the search I give it in some areas and better at others. Unfortunately, it seems to be the technical areas which is suffering. Therefore one has to use the "site:example.com" construct more and more often. -- "If you're not careful, the newspapers will have you hating the people who are being oppressed, and loving the people who are doing the oppressing." --- Malcolm X -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-user-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe".
