Hi just found your post re accessing cdrom in debian testing, have same problem sometimes and just found simple solution if you don't mind using CLI using wodim, here's the page I found.

for me I used ,
$ wodim /dev/sr0
                          ^ this is a zero

I get this problem on and off I think because I use dolphin even though I am running XFCE so I think it sometimes clashes with the default file manager.
