First let's establish this is actually the case. You didn't state "new computer new drive" or "old computer/drive, new wheezy". If new computer/drive, which drive is this? WD Green series drive firmware auto parks the heads after ~5 seconds and spins the drive down automatically after 30s, IIRC.
