I have a laptop with a floppy drive and PCMCIA ethernet, but no CD drive. I want to install the base system over the network, using only the rescue, root and driver disks. I configure PCMCIA support and my ethernet card is recognized; but when I configure the network, it says "Network is configured but not activated". Indeed, ifconfig shows no eth0 interface. What do I do???
I looked at the messages on tty3 to see what's going wrong. The command "./network eth0" was complaining that the file /var/lib/misc/pcmcia-scheme doesn't exist. It was right, because in fact /var/lib didn't even exist yet. I tried commenting out the offending line (it was in /target/etc/pcmcia/shared which is called by /target/etc/pcmcia/network) and the error message went away when I ran /target/etc/pcmcia/network, but the eth0 interface still didn't get activated. --David -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe".
