This depends entirely on what you include, and if you build modules or
not.  If you're like me and strip out absolutely everything the target
machine doesn't need, do not use initrd, etc, etc, then it's a pretty
quick compile, less than 5 minutes on a modern CPU.

As Ralf said, if you're duplicating a distro kernel it'll take much longer.
