Instead I tried kernel 3.10 on Jessie, except for occasional black screen, which I have have press Ctrl+Alt+F1 then Ctrl+Al+F8. On Wheezy with its default kernel, open source radeon driver, mesa-utils and firmware-linux-nonfree, this would cause laptop to freeze.
