Yes, but A) that will get lost when you update the grub package and B) I thought you were unable to even get 1280x1024 in grub so keeping the low resolution shouldn't be much help? The proper way to do what you've added is to add "GRUB_GFXPAYLOAD_LINUX=keep" to /etc/default/grub and re-run update-grub.
