The truth is that I am waiting for some free time to try to make a new kernel image. Do I have to have scsi support (all these sd** ??). Any way, my system has one of those hp cdwriters that when trying to use them as scsi devices throw the kernel into panick. There is a page in the schilling site about it. So I had removed all scsi from my kernel, to avoid the panick. I have been burning CDs without the scsi support, with only dev=ATAPI option in cdrecord (see same page in schilling's site). Any way, I had also had a heck of a time with an audigy card, that I was able to install properly by following strictly the indications in the alsa site, none of the indications aimed at Debian did any good. After the first responses came I decided to make a new kernel image with scsi support, avoiding any references to CDRom support, just generic. The new image killed sound again, I figured that the problem was in /lib/modules, so I changed back the previous /lib/modules/2.4.22-old to /lib/modules/2.4.22, booted with new image, and there is sound and all. But still there is not access to the memory stick. Next I will try the solution that you have mentioned, since I don't remember if it was included or not. Free time I will have tomorrow some, I will give it a shot then. If you (or anyone) have any suggestions arising from my story, please let me know.
