There is also x2go, which seems to have replace FreeNX.  There is an x2go
client in the Debian repos, but no server.  For that you'll have to go to
http://wiki.x2go.org/doku.php/start

Note that I've never tried this, but I have used FreeNX in the past and
it was very quick, even over the internet.
